How I Plan to Conquer The Month of March

My 9 goals for the month.

Image created in Midjourney.

I posted my February updates here, and while it was a decent month, it was somewhat dissatisfying.

Everything was down in all areas — email subscribers, Medium earnings, and affiliate earnings.

There were areas where I did just fine (writing on Medium) and other areas where I lacked (engaging on Medium).

Here’s how I plan to turn things around and conquer March.

March Goals & Challenges

I mentioned these goals in the February update, but I want to be a little more specific here.

1. Work on the Medium-Newsletter-Book framework.

This framework is Jamie Northrup - Minimalist Hustler’s brilliant idea. You can read more about it here. The idea is to think of a book idea, break it into chapters, and post each chapter as an article on Medium.

Then you promote those articles in your newsletter to get extra eyes on the Medium versions. Once it’s done, you put it together in book format to sell on Amazon KDP (and elsewhere potentially).

Here’s where I got hung up.

I had an idea of what I wanted to do.

Then I had another idea of a whole series of books to write.

The problem? Too many ideas at once, which leads to overthinking. (Overthinking leads to procrastination!) The solution is to go back to the original idea and get started. I can always do the series later.

My goal is to have at least 10 articles posted for the framework in March.

2. Continue posting Medium articles.

It’s already a habit for me to post Medium articles (almost) daily, so I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing with this.

By the way, the reason I say (almost) daily instead of fully committing to daily is because I’m a free spirit and I do whatever feels good at the time.

I don’t have any writing systems or strategies, nor do I have any strict schedules. I’ve tried to do that type of thing, and it doesn’t work for me.

I rebel against my own rules and then I get stuck spinning my wheels.

3. Engage more on Medium.

I had a goal in the previous months to read and comment on at least 10 articles per day on Medium. I stopped doing that, and all my stats decreased.

I don’t have proof that my stats decreased due to not engaging as much, but I’ll get back to it this month as an experiment and see if it helps.

4. Post more consistently on Twitter/X.

I’m not consistent at all on X, and it shows! While I prefer to spend more of my time here on Medium, I think there’s a lot of potential over there.

I’ll do more engaging and self-promoting this month and see if it helps increase my email subscribers.

5. Hit these two goals.

I probably shouldn’t put this as a March goal because I just want to hit them eventually. I don’t care if it’s this month.

But…

Might as well go for it in March. You never know…!

6. Come up with a new digital product to sell.

I’m honestly the most nervous about this one because I don’t have any ideas right now. I’m hoping I’ll get one of those genius shower ideas one day.

7. Earn $700 in a month on Medium.

Of the goals I have linked in #5, one of them is to hit $1,000 in a month. But, in case that doesn’t happen, my backup goal is $700.

I don’t totally have control over this. Medium shows my content (or not) when it wants. But I’ll do my best!

I’ll continue writing consistently and hopefully, something will take off this month.

8. Get to 500 newsletter subscribers.

I’m close to this goal already (I’m at 481), and you would think this would be easy. But that’s what I thought last month too, and it wasn’t!

If I post more consistently on X, this should help with the newsletter subscriber situation.

I’m also thinking of ways to make my newsletter better, but I don’t want to change it just for the sake of changing it.

9. Have the most fun ever!

“If it ain’t fun, I’m not doing it!”

If any of this ever becomes not fun, I’m out. But for now, I plan to keep going and I expect this to be the best month yet!

Final Thoughts

While February was OK, it was also a bit of a letdown. I didn’t do as well as I was hoping. I’m grateful for all of my achievements, but I’m ready for more.

It’s time to step it up a notch.

I’m ready to conquer March!

What are your plans for conquering March? Do you have any big goals?
