It Takes A Bit of Time and Effort But Is Totally Worth It
I LOVE business with a passion and I’m always looking for an opportunity to set up a quick little income stream.
While exploring potential passive income ideas on Amazon, I stumbled upon a simple yet highly lucrative product: a children’s storybook.
Astonished by the impressive sales numbers, I decided to venture into this realm myself. Here’s some quick math to demonstrate the potential: a book priced at $6.47 with 2550 ratings, for instance, likely earned the seller over sixteen thousand dollars. And that’s just one book.
With Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform, which lets you publish for free, the opportunity seemed too good to pass up.
Harnessing the Power of AI to Create a Storybook In Just A Few Hours
The first step in creating a compelling storybook is conceptualising a captivating story idea. For this, I used ChatGPT, a powerful AI language model. After a few attempts, the AI suggested a promising title: “The Adventures of Tommy and Timmy: The Search for the Lost Treasure.”
Please note, this is just an example and isn’t my specific book.
Delighted by this engaging idea, I asked the AI to flesh out the story, including outlining the chapters and detailing the scenes.
The story, aimed at kids aged between five to eight, revolved around two young friends embarking on a thrilling jungle adventure to uncover a lost treasure. The story’s outline consisted of several exciting chapters, such as “The Lost Treasure,” “The Wise Old Parrot,” “The Mischievous Monkey,” “The Thieves,” and “The Heroes Welcome.”
Within a few minutes, we had a detailed outline, a compelling storyline, and well-thought-out chapters, all thanks to the freaking genius of AI.
Adding Life to the Story through AI-Generated Illustrations
As crucial as a compelling story is, it would fall flat without captivating illustrations, especially in children’s books. However, custom artwork from professionals can be prohibitively expensive. Enter AI-generated art.
I used Mid-Journey, an AI art generator, to create custom, professional-quality illustrations for my book. After explaining the scenario I wanted to depict, the AI produced several variations. I selected my favorite, upscaled it for better resolution, and saved it. In just about half an hour, all illustrations were ready to be incorporated into the story.
Combining Text and Art to Create the Final Product
The next step was to merge the text and images to craft a visually appealing storybook. For this, I used Canva, a user-friendly graphic design platform. By uploading the AI-generated images to Canva, and overlaying the text from the story, I was able to create a professional-looking children’s book.
This method had the added benefit of being time-efficient. After designing the first page, duplicating the template streamlined the process, allowing me to maintain a consistent style across all chapters.
Once the book was complete, I saved it as a PDF print, ready for publication😊.
Finally: Publishing

How Much Did I Make?
Honestly, I’d rather not reveal my specific income because it would be pretty easy to reverse engineer my books using screenshots. However, I’ll say that currently I’ve been making around $500-$2000/month for the last few months with 13 different books. This almost matches my part-time translation income!

And all this was just by creating about a book every other day for a month and forgetting about it completely. So, wrapping up, here’s the recap:
