How I Generated 1,000+ Views In My First 23 Days On Medium
Getting attention is hard, and even more difficult in the digital world. Especially when you are competing with entertainment.
Think about it from your readers perspective:
“Hmmm what should I do, read Fabledwords’ blog or put Netflix on?”
This is why your writing must be at an exceptional level, but what sucks is that even if your blog is amazing, if the title ain’t good, it ain’t getting read.
So, how do you make a good title that hooks readers in and makes them click on to your article?
Today I am going to show you a simple formula that turns Netflix abusers into your blog viewers and one of the key ingredients that helped me boost past 1,000 views in less than a month of the Medium Partner Program.
The Fabled Formula
So you want your people to stop what they are doing, see your article and click on it? Sounds simple enough.
But then post after post, and the views stay down, down, down.
It’s time to stop throwing, you know what, at the wall until it sticks, it’s time for a formula.
This formula helped me when bringing in viewers for my blogs, 1,100+ as of now, just 23 days into the Medium Partner Program!
Here it is:
- Ask a question
- Hint at a benefit for continued reading
- Start your story in the middle of the action (The juicy part)
So how does this work?
- The question makes it seem personal, as if your blog is directed towards the reader and no one else
- Who doesn’t want to gain something after doing something else
- Starting your story at the most interesting point and then adding context later allows for readers to get hooked in, sometimes people won’t see the best pieces of your writing because they can’t sit through your build up
(P.S If you aren’t sure what I mean by ‘starting your story in the middle of the action’ check out this blog below, which is essentially just the 1st chapter of a fantasy book I began writing in 2021 with this exact method).
Okay, but surely I didn’t just follow this formula to get views? No.
What else can you do, to add to this formula, to ensure you are getting the most views possible on Medium?
Consistency
Ever heard the saying ‘do something a lot and you get better results than if you do it less than a lot’ …no? Well uh, now you have… anyway.
Of course consistency on medium is vital, just like consistency with anything in life. So what do I mean? You must post x amount of blogs per day? Nope we will get onto that later.
What I mean is there needs to be some sort of consistency when you post, never forget that the people who read your stories aren’t just numbers, they are complex living beings that do certain things at certain times.
Like opening their laptop after tea to look for a few interesting pieces to read.
If your posting schedule is random it can be difficult for people to see your articles until almost a full day has passed on them, keep in mind we live in a viral world, the hastier you are able to get eyes on your work, the better.
I consistently post my blogs at certain times, so when people follow me they get used to my upload schedule and will see my blogs as soon as they log in.
Volume
Volume, similar to consistency, from what I have observed is massive on Medium.
I see a large number of people complaining about how it’s too hard to get views, or earn money on Medium, but only upload 3 articles a month.
I hate to be the villain here but, people are ruthless and they will forget you. That’s if you don’t constantly remind them you are here.
It’s crucial in the beginning that you are everywhere, I’m talking blog posts, publications, responses, clapping, following.
People need to question whether you have a life outside of Medium.
Once you put this initial work in the beginning you can ease off once you have built an audience.
So how do you build an audience?
Targeted Audience Through Publications
You steal it!
Only joking, kind of.
Publications are an absolute dream for new writers. It’s the type of thing you would usually wish for, except on Medium, it’s right here ready to be taken advantage of.
Publications already have an audience you can publish your blogs to, the best part? Most publications have certain niches that they write about, meaning you can target your writing towards them when using different publications!
Bouncin’ and Behavin’ is my personal favourite at the moment! Let me know yours in the comments.
