The First Chapter Of A Book I Started — Chapter 1 - Run
“Run Iris, run and don’t look back.” I heard my dad shout, as I felt him push me in the back, towards the door, the door that had been kept closed for months as we hid.
My instincts made me fight against going outside, I had been told that going outside was death, if I were to be seen by ‘them’ that was it, it was over for us. I had followed all the rules, every single one, but they still found us… they killed him, but why? The thoughts raced in my head as I started sprinting away from my home.
The blood-red dusty gravel beneath my boots made it tricky to navigate away from the bunker we had been hidden in for months, I’d always felt safe there, but no longer. My double braided hair, flung about crashed into my sides as they swung wildly with each stride I took. I heard struggling behind me, as I continued to move, my legs beginning to feel like they had rocks attached to them. I turned my head as I just about managed to see my dad with his hand raised in the air, his hair and eyes glowing a deep blue, like mine when I would use my powers, but wait, why was he using his powers?
One of ‘them’ entered my vision, behind my dad, I was about to shout when something happened… I couldn’t move, my limbs ceased to function. Everything began going foggy, I could barely focus, I saw them though, surrounding my dad, his eyes and hair glowing fiercer than I have ever seen, but his focus weren’t on fighting them off.
It was on me. I tried to scream his name, to fight, but I made no sound. He was fixated on me, why weren’t he using his powers. Everything started fading to black, I felt my body failing me, I was fainting… I think. I tried to fight it, I couldn’t see anything, what happened…
Not my usual type of post but hopefully you enjoyed, I wrote this over 2 years ago, it was one of the first things I ever wrote.
Maybe one day I will continue with this book, but for now it remains closed.
Until next time,
Jeff.
