Anyway…

I think one thing people are often uncertain about in the world of Medium is what exactly earns you income through the platform. Today I am going to go over how your articles earn money on Medium, in the simplest way I can.

Obviously, if you aren’t a Medium Partner Program member, either by choice or because your country isn’t supported, you can’t make money through the platform. Well, not in the traditional sense. There are a few ways you can make money, but today we are talking about Medium specifically paying you, which cannot be done without being a Medium member.

How Do I Get Paid?

So there are a few factors to consider when looking at Medium earnings, these are:

  • How long members read or listen to, your stories.
  • The number of claps, highlights, and responses from members.
  • How many people follow you after reading your article.
  • Follower bonus — You earn more per read/clap etc. if the member follows you.
  • Boost — If Medium boosts your story you will earn additional revenue as it is pushed to a wider audience.
  • The read ratio % — When members read your story for 30 seconds or longer.

So What Can I Do To Help Increase The Stats That Get Me Paid?

First of all, you need people to click on your articles. Developing your skill of writing great hooks is how you will attract people to your piece in the first place.

Your hook, on Medium, is your title.

You have to convince people to read your blog post based on your title, and the picture too. If your writing doesn’t appeal to them, they will continue to scroll.

You then need to convince them to carry on reading, a great way to do this is to promise them something at the end of the post, a big pay off. Are you going to tell them how to earn money online? Are you going to tell them the best drink to help them sleep? Give a hint in your hook that makes them read until the end to find out.

To truly reap the rewards of the follower bonus just ensure that you consistently put out good, valuable content that helps your readers, or entertains them. Ask yourself why would you follow someone.
