Three Ways I Can Help You
And how you can reach me

Sixteen years ago, I was right about where you are now.
Maybe worse.
I lived on a mattress in my friend Manny’s kitchen, because it was a small one-bedroom apartment. There was nowhere else to put me.
He didn’t exactly want this arrangement forever, as you might imagine. He started rent at $100 to help me get on my feet, but it was going to keep rising every month.
It was fun for a while, we played a lot of sports and video games. I read self-improvement books and dreamed of starting companies while he was busy finishing up his master’s degree. I found a part-time job that I hated. I couldn’t get a girl to go out with me to save my life (mostly because I was still too shy to ask). After 6 months or so, I had to leave Orlando and move back with my parents in West Palm Beach.
Manny and I are still good friends to this day, and I treasure that season of my life. But I’ll never forget how much it sucks to be broke.
Today I sometimes feel as if I have no time. But back then it was much worse to have no money. After all, my abundance of time got squandered on stress, worry, and escapism anyway.
I’m lucky for my parents. Even though they were pretty broke too back then, they’ve always been kind and wonderful people. I recognize now that not everyone has the support, encouragement, and guidance that I received.
Today, I live the American Dream — happily married, a full-time job, benefits, retirement account, homeowner… stability. Along the way, it sometimes seemed like a difficult road. I often made things much harder than they needed to be.
The truth is, I am where I am now in large part because I’ve caught so many lucky breaks and opportunities along the way. In retrospect, I now realize I was handed life on “easy mode”. Here’s my story so far in greater detail.
Your Story
By contrast to my story, if you’re setting up your adult life in the chaos of 2020, or starting a new one after losing a job or relationship, then I’m sorry. Truly. You’re not going to have access to the same opportunities that I enjoyed. You’re playing the game of life on “expert level” difficulty settings.
I wouldn’t have wished this on you or anyone else. But here we are. I won’t mince words: it is going to be brutal, and it is not your fault. All I can do is to help you face reality as it presents itself and teach you principles to become capable of overcoming unpredictable challenges.
But at the same time, there’s an enormous opportunity for you. And as terrible as it sounds, perhaps this is for the best. As Tony Robbins’ mentor Jim Rohn put it, “don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better.”
Another phrase I want to ring in your ears comes from the ancient stoic Epictetus, “only the educated are free.”
Speaking of education, I’ve spent my career working at Palm Beach State College because we’re open access. Unlike prestigious and exclusive universities, we take everyone that has a diploma or GED. I absolutely love that. I want everyone to have a shot at a better life. I want you to flourish to the maximum of your potential. I want your future to drastically surpass the present-day limits of either your imagination or mine.
In this digital economy, everyone is trying to run the maze while the walls keep shifting. New dynamics keep opening up, while others are closing. I’ve already written a series of articles on the topic of how to thrive in an ever-changing environment, and I’ll keep sharing everything I learn.
Services I Provide
Writing Help
Back to your story— I don’t just want you to read, I want you to write. Write a lot.
Reading and writing are now and always will be vitally important skills, but not just for writing resumes, reports, or articles. It goes well beyond the ability to make money, although that’s important.
To perform the act of writing is a powerful first step to weaving the reality which you desire into being.
I’m not talking about something supernatural, per se, although I think spirituality is a meaningful aspect of life that I want to talk more about another time. For now, I’ll just say writing is a way to train your mind to clearly understand what you want and to solidify what you’ve learned. You’re conditioning your brain to be clear about what you desire and then to notice and seek out more of whatever you’ll need to get it.
Here are some articles to help you develop a writing habit and get the right mindset.
I sometimes give feedback to other authors who leave comments. Below are some examples. Be sure to put a link to your best article in the comments if you want me to take a look at your work and give a response.
Math & Business Tutoring
My day job is still as a math tutor for Palm Beach State College. I used to manage a large staff, but if you’ve read Redefining Education in a Digital World then you know that’s no longer the case. Now I’m back on the front lines tutoring math one-on-one remotely.
I find that a lot of people are intimidated by math, so I wrote this to help you face that fear.
If you’re currently enrolled at Palm Beach State College, your instructor will tell you how to access the Student Learning Center and make free appointments with me.
Subjects I tutor include:
- Arithmetic
- Algebra
- Liberal Arts/Finite Math
- Statistics
- Trigonometry
- Precalculus
- Calculus 1&2
- Financial & Managerial Accounting
- Economics
When I have time, I put out free videos on YouTube like this one, so you can always check out my channel for free help.
