How a Salad Green Unblocked My Writing Brain

A foliar poem

Some days I’m a Wilted lettuce Bereft of mental sustenance Idea basket empty

No food for thought I vegetate I ought to write Create

Yet ego chants “You can’t!” Uproots me from My inner soil

Neglected leaves Wither and cry

Their tears Trickle and tickle my heart Awaken my soul Make me whole Open the door

I can write once more!

I wrote this in response to the TBIN Writing Prompt: Use a metaphor involving a plant to explore an idea of your choice. Thanks Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她)!

I was out of ideas! But my lettuce was ready to harvest — NOT polk salad which you must cook!

Thank you for being here.

If you suffer from FOMO the perfect cure is to sign up as a member, read to your heart’s discontent and get paid to write your own stories!
