the “shoulds”

a poem

Photo by Johnson Chou on Unsplash

In these moments the guilt is overwhelming, an emotion that says

you should have done better you should have been better you should have known better

a martyr emotion that tells me the only expectation of me is to expect my sacrifice against others’ needs.

it’s overwhelming how strongly guilt can be planted like a seed, growing unruly like a weed, unwanted, painfully overgrown, suffocating all else.

#TBINWritingPrompt: Use a metaphor involving a plant to explore an idea of your choice!
