Hope is a Dangerous Thing
A Poem
It’s hard to hope when you’re not sure that you deserve the gift of something better That everything you’ve done in life amounted to something but just not enough for you to deserve hope
Hope is a dangerous thing It makes you wish for more and reach aimlessly into the void for a sign that you are worthy of these dreams But what if you’re not? What if you will not be granted hope? For all the reasons you know and all the ones you don’t
Your expectations will grow of what you are owed by the universe in all its infinite wisdom And you shall sit there waiting for the hope to come to fruition But that’s the dangerous thing about hope You might be waiting forever Looking at the door Staring at the clock But hope’s not coming
Hope has better things to do For better people For people that aren’t you For people who don’t have all of their hopes pinned on hope as a way of making this life work

*The title and idea for this poem was inspired by the song, hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have — but i have it, by Lana Del Ray. It’s one of the most beautiful songs you will ever hear.
