Honey

A Poem

Photo by Daily Slowdown on Unsplash

I want to pour honey Down my throat Until The coughing stops And I can remember what It is like to Talk smooth and normal To swallow without thought To not want to claw and gasp For breath after Fits and fits Of coughing that tense Jaw and stomach That leave me And my throat Raw and bruised That linger too long Past the illness Past the cure I am ready to Begin again Life anew Protecting my voice Protecting my spirit As treasured as honey
