High Expectations
Out of this broken mirror, alone with me, I finally see my true image. I am finally free.
The mirror was pretty, shiny, enticing. The image within was fake, looked so very real. Made up of all your high expectations, tantalizing. Promised me safety, approval and love — a sweet deal.
The mirror proved to be a prison of your fantasies of me, impossible to meet. I gave you all the magical stories I had written, that you didn’t need to read.
A fake image couldn’t make us happy. Me pleasing you only hurt your heart. We could have learned to truly love already, if I had followed my own path.
Better late than never, I break the mirror. I see myself outside your frame.
Free to follow my dreams, to simply be. With love and light, my dear, I also set you free.
No more high expectations, we dropped everything, except the joy of life. I let you learn your own life lessons without my bonds and ties.
Out of this broken mirror I stand and remember, I finally see. Both of us grew, both of us flying to our new horizon.
Still loving and still caring deeply. But finally free.
Has it ever happened to you that the moment you stopped trying to please people and started doing your own thing, they actually started liking you more? Sometimes the moment they see you happy and independent feels like a weight was lifted off their shoulders and they feel liberated from some kind of perceived responsibility…
So… Make someone happy today by simply being your own beautiful you 😁
