Summary

A down-on-their-luck adventurer encounters a farmer in need of help with a cart and has the opportunity to earn silver pieces by assisting her.

Abstract

The narrative follows an adventurer facing hardship after failing a recent quest, leading to a lack of funds for basic needs. While traveling to the Adventurers League Guild Hall, the protagonist comes across a farmer struggling with a cart stuck off the road. Despite initial skepticism from the farmer, the adventurer offers assistance, claiming to be a hero of the Adventurers League. The task of pushing the cart back onto the road is presented as a game challenge with an "Easy" difficulty, requiring a roll of 10 or higher using virtual "brawn" with up to two attempts initially. Success results in a reward of 30 silver pieces, potentially allowing the adventurer to regain some lost equipment, while failure still earns a smaller reward of two silver pieces. The story concludes with the adventurer moving on, with options to visit the Guild Hall or an inn, and an invitation for readers to engage further with the platform by signing up, with a referral link provided for new users.

Opinions

  • The narrative implies that helping others can lead to unexpected rewards, even in times of personal difficulty.
  • The interactive nature of the story, requiring dice and paper, suggests a blend of traditional role-playing game elements with modern digital storytelling.
  • The farmer's initial suspicion of the adventurer reflects a common trope in fantasy settings where strangers are not immediately trusted.
  • The inclusion of a referral link indicates that the author values community growth and may benefit from reader engagement beyond the story itself.
  • The game-like structure of the encounter, with clear instructions and potential outcomes, caters to readers who enjoy interactive fiction and decision-making within a narrative.

As luck would have it, you come across a farmer whose cart has come off the road. On a whim, you decide to help her push it up. “Let me help you with that.”

“Who are you, stranger?” she replies suspiciously.

“I’m a great hero, and a member of an Adventurers League,” you say.

She looks you up and down. “Really?”

“I’ve fallen on hard times.”

She shrugs, ready to accept the help.
