Here’s what I learned about Perspective
A short poem
Perspective shows objects
look smaller with distance
They narrow as our eyes approach
Vanishing beyond the horizon
incomprehensible to our scope
What we see is determined by our viewpoint
the angle we choose and our willingness to accept
Often we do this based on history and knowledge behind us
we discover the distortions to neglect
Understanding infinite other perspectives
takes courage and openness at best
If you could turn your head slightly
to look at the picture
not as you but as if you were another
then you will be blessed
Authors note: Recently, I was expressing to my wife my reluctance and difficulty I faced communicating with a family member. My wife kindly reminded me of the importance of perspective.
So the next time, I am torn between feelings of doing what’s right and my gradual loss of patience. I will do well to remember that yes it may feel sometimes I have been handed an emotional hand grenade to disrupt my happiness. But that’s down to me looking at the situation from my perspective; Maybe if I tilt my head more to look at the same picture, I will understand.
Thanks for reading!
