Here Are 5 Of My Favourite Souvenirs

Did you buy any cool things on your travels?

I love visiting places like these! Photo by Ricardo Esquivel

In the past, I always wanted to buy souvenirs when I travel. Whenever I spotted a gift shop or souvenirs, I’d make a beeline for it. I wanted to take something home with me.

My mindset about souvenirs has changed over the years. I’m a bit of a minimalist now, so I prefer to reduce the number of belongings I have.

Given the choice, I shy away from most souvenirs or touristy things when I travel nowadays.

Nevertheless, I still have a lot of souvenirs I’ve bought from previous trips.

Here are 5 of my favourite purchases from around the world.

A Blanket — Australia

I got this blanket at the Penguin Parade at Phillip Island! Obviously, I wanted to bring a fluffy penguin home with me. Since that didn’t work out, I had to settle for this fleece blanket. It’s so soft too!

Even though I got it in 2013, I’m still using it right now.

It’s right on my lap, as I’m typing this story!

A Painting — Prague

I bought this painting in Prague because I wanted to take something home with me. I’m not an art person, so I probably can’t appreciate this painting as much as someone who knows art.

I don’t regret the purchase and often look at it fondly from time to time. I love how it reminds me of my trip to Prague. Isn’t it so pretty?

A Cup — Newfoundland

We have a sizeable collection of cups from various trips we’ve taken. Cups aren’t the easiest souvenirs to take home! There’s always the fear of having it shatter by accident. Nevertheless, it has become a bit of a tradition.

I bought this cup in Newfoundland. The colourful houses caught my eye.

When I buy a cup, I try to make sure that each cup is unique and that it stands out from the rest.

There’s no use in buying a bunch of black cups. This cup represents Newfoundland well!

A Decorative Wall Piece- Sabah

Never heard of Sabah? It’s located in Borneo, Malaysia. It’s capital is Kota Kinabalu. Like the rest of Malaysia, Sabah has hot weather all year round. If you enjoy beaches, Sabah could be your next destination!

Since I go to Malaysia often, I didn’t feel like I wanted to get a souvenir.

However, I’ve only been to Sabah a few times. I decided to get this decorative wall piece when I was there one time.

It has some hooks, which you can probably use to hang keys.

I love the design. It reminds me of Malaysia every time I look at it.

A Cow’s Bell — Switzerland

We know everything is expensive in Switzerland! I had to be careful about what to buy. This time, I didn’t want to buy a cup.

Isn’t a tiny bell much cuter?

I didn’t want to bring back a gigantic bell, so I chose this tiny one. My backpack wouldn’t fit anything too big anyways. Adorable!
