Hercula and the Golden Hydra: Three: A Science Fiction Short Story
Clarity in the Cut and Thrust

Welcome to the tales of Hercula, a future renegade soldier.
Times have changed. The galaxies are run by seven massive Artificial Intelligences, who like to be thought of as gods. Following a devastating tragedy, guided by the Artificial Intelligence, Brimstone, the renegade, Hercula has reluctantly agreed to take on ten tasks for FreezyWater, the unsavoury owner of Cellophane Station. Following her recent triumph with the Terracotta Dragon, Hercula will next face the Golden Hydra, a creature bringing ‘solace’ to the elderly on a distant world.

Clarity in the Cut and Thrust
There was a clarity that came with the cut and thrust. Her body moving instinctively, taking joy in the struggle, as her mind rejoiced in the skill of her enemy and exulted in her superiority. Another struggle was done. Every action she took could be a step forward to completion. Every day is one day closer to death and time was a-ticking. This request of Freezywater’s could be a chance to learn something that would bring her closer to the goal. To find something that would give her an edge to turn the page of death for Era.
Brimstone did not approve. But Hercula was on her own path. She had not made a secret of it.
Yet Freezywater, like death and taxes, was inevitable.
‘’I concede the fight,’’ she told the nearest droid. Her white words flew through the horde and all came to a stop. Some with a not-inconsiderable amount of relief.
‘’Brimstone?’’
‘’Yes, Hercula?’’
‘’I’m heading to see FreezyWater. That little rat fink.” said Hercula. “Do you want to chat, while I jog to his office?’’
‘’It would be my pleasure to accompany you, Hercula.’’
