Hello Virginia Creeper! Hello Ammonite!

Goodbye mammoth order!

With Jack’s snoopervision — and he’s a hard task-master — this monster order of about 5,000(ish) Christmas cards has gone off.

What a relief that it’s been delivered despite petrol shortages etc.

They are for a Border Collie rescue centre. They do excellent work at this place. Three of my previous dogs came from there.

Of course, Border Collies are about three times the size and weight of Jack. I realised after my last Border Collie that I had to go smaller for the sake of my health. When a dog gets old and arthritic and won’t walk up a ramp and you have to lift him into the car, you need to be able to do that without putting your back out.

I’m pleased I’ve found this ammonite — I’ve had it for years but it had gone missing. It must have been trying to escape through the garden, but it’s surfaced again.

Just to think of the experiences and eras it has lived through is mind-blowing.

I tend to swear about this Virginia Creeper (above and in the header) all year round as it smothers and suffocates my honeysuckles and my jasmines and my rambling roses and wisteria, and everything else that used to grow down that side of my garden.

But — for about ten minutes at this time of year, it does come into its own glory.

It’s that time of year again — that is — it’s October! Spooky stuff coming up!

In aid of spookiness, I’ve written a short article so that anyone can draw spooky bats on anything they’re creating for this eerie-season.

It’s here:

And it’s these kinds of bats above. They will happily sit on pictures and cards and gift tags and can be drawn onto fabric and windows and anything you wish to spookify.

Last year, Dennett started the Photo-a-Day Challenge to help combat the pandemic blues. She takes photos during the week, chooses the best ones, and adds some narrative.
