Poetic discovery of a guitar virtuoso

Notes: Inspired by Baden Powell’s “Samba Triste” (Sad Samba) which showcases the flamboyant, staccato trickery of Powell’s masterful picking. Here is the first 1959 recording which was covered by many artists including Getz & Byrd, but the video footage below for Powell’s intense instrumental is awe-inspiring. By the end, his playing style nearly overcomes the drummer with its rapid, percussive quality.

The lyrics are essential bossa nova, picking on themes of enduring longing and love lost.
