Hearts, Halloween, and Hasselback Potatoes
Happily highlighting things that start with H — A to Z Challenge

Hearts
Whenever I tell my granddaughter about a prompt or theme for a story I’m going to write, she immediately wants to help. It makes creating photos and stories that much more fun.
We were at the park last weekend, and on the way out, I asked her to take a “shadow” picture with me. Then she suggested we do a heart above our heads. How is she so creative?! I told her the heart would fit nicely for one of my H words, and that she is my heart. Then we headed for the car to pick up lunch on our way home.

Halloween
Halloween decorations are my favorite of all the holiday decorations. I bought this Haunted Library set a few years ago to add to my light up pumpkins and other decorations. I love the details — the broken window, the skeletons, the hanging sign that I can imagine creaking in the wind, all the books. I would totally visit this library.

Hasselback Potatoes
I love finding new-to-me recipes that fit this challenge. It gives me a chance to create outside my comfort zone and, well…I like to eat.
This was another super easy air fryer recipe. Not many ingredients — 4 potatoes, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and butter for brushing on at the end. Oh, and basil for garnish since I didn’t have parsley. They went well with the pork tenderloin and pea salad that I also made.
I didn’t worry too much about getting perfectly spaced slits in the potatoes, but I have since seen a tool that helps with that. Whether I get one or not is still up in the air. I mean, you still have to cut the potato. The tool is just a guide, and I’d want something that cuts the potato too. Until someone comes up with that tool, I’ll probably continue to gauge the spaces myself.
The potato that looks like it’s sliced open was one I kind of messed up. I didn’t think the melted butter was getting into the spaces so I pushed the brush down a little harder and the potato split apart. Oops.
Luckily, the potatoes were a big hit. Youngest Son said the crispiness reminded him of hash browns. I could see that. I think I’ll add cheese and sour cream next time, but I was pleased with how these turned out and always glad when my food is well received.
