Have You Tried the New Reese’s Cup with Potato Chips Inside?

Here’s my review of this popular Hershey’s brand of chocolate

I’ve been a chocolate lover for as long as I’ve been alive, and just like many of you, I often indulge on a yummy, chocolatey, Reese’s peanut butter cup.

Recently, after doing some much needed shopping for toiletries at my local Family Dollar Store, I spotted the new Reese’s peanut butter cup with the potato chips stuffed inside.

I started not to purchase it, because even though the combination sounded kind of appealing, I wasn’t sure if it was worth the two bucks for the candy ($1.89).

Since it was labeled as a ”limited edition”, I decided to grab one, just in case they didn’t have anymore, if I changed my mind later.

I bought the candy, and in a moment, I’ll tell you what I thought. But first, let me tell you what Hershey’s has to say about their new edition to the Reese’s family.

Hershey describes the candy like this:

“… we mixed crispy rippled potato chips right in with our smooth peanut butter, then coated it in rich milk chocolate. In each bite of a REESE’S Big Cup with Potato Chips Peanut Butter Cup, you’ll taste the chocolate, then the peanut butter, then a curious crunch for the ultimate sweet and salty snack moment.”

Now, as for what I personally thought about the new chocolate treat…

The pros and cons of the new Reese’s peanut butter cup

I took the candy home and split half with my sister; allowing her to sample the candy at the same time I did.

After the first bite or two, we compared notes. We discussed what we liked and didn’t like, and both came to the same conclusion.

The Pros

  • The sweet and salty combination is right on point — I like it!
  • The salty, and crunchy texture helps to break up all the sweetness
  • The added crunch gives the big hunk of candy a little more personality

The Cons

  • The chips are too hard — they shouldn’t use rippled chips
  • The ratio of chocolate and peanut butter to potato chip pieces is off (not enough potato chips)
  • The pieces almost get lost in the larger size Reese’s cup

If I had to rank the candy and give it a star rating, I’d go with a 3 (out of a possible 5). I think with a few adjustments, the peanut butter, chocolate, and potato chip combination will work just fine.

Hershey’s — I hope you’re listening!

Final Thoughts

Although I don’t typically write a lot of product reviews, sometimes I stumble onto something that I think is worth sharing with other consumers.

My motivation for writing summaries or reviews tend to differ, but it’s mostly because I like to share something that I find enjoyable, even if it needs a few modifications.

I like the idea of a Reese’s peanut butter cup that contains potato chips. I just wish the people at Hershey’s could read this story, and do a little tweaking to the product. Then, they could make it a permanent edition to their little chocolate family.

If you get a chance to buy the new candy, why not pick one up, and give it a try. You can even return to this page and share what you think about it.
