Happy National Autism Acceptance Month — 2023
Celebrate Our Differences!

April is National Autism Acceptance Month.
Yesterday, I wrote, Happy World Autism Acceptance Day — 2023 because of the positive impact that the Red Instead Party! (live event) had on me:
After writing it, I realized it was just a basic overview of the live event. However, I did highlight the need for autism acceptance. Also, I provided a credible source that others could look into if they wanted to know how to best support themselves or other Autistics.
It was pointed out in Happy World Autism Acceptance Day — 2023 that acceptance was used, instead of awareness — This was an opportunity for me to turn that comment into a teachable one:
Awareness acknowledges that Autistics exist, whereas acceptance not only seeks to understand the Autistic experience, but provides appropriate supports.
Autistics, like any other marginalized group has not had a choice in how they are integrated and supported in society.
Oftentimes, autism is viewed as something that needs to be fixed, instead of adding to the human experience.
Autism is on the spectrum, which means that there is not one way to be or exist as an Autistic. Every Autistic has different support needs. It’s time that we acknowledge and address the different support needs within the Autistic community.
The live event, Red Instead Party! reinforces the need for Autistics acceptance and support.
