Summary

The website content reflects on finding inner peace and tranquility amidst the chaos of life, drawing inspiration from the serenity of mountains, temples, and nature.

Abstract

The article titled "Haiku — 0016: Tranquility" delves into the pursuit of inner peace, reminiscent of Master Shifu's teaching of "Inner Peace" from the Kung Fu Panda series. It describes the calming effect of taking a deep breath, which helps in dissolving the mind's disturbances and achieving a state of oneness with nature. The author shares personal experiences of finding peace in the grandeur of mountains and the sanctity of very old temples, emphasizing the triviality of one's presence in such vastness. Although not overly religious, the author values the spirituality and dharma that these places evoke. The process involves sitting in silence, allowing thoughts to pass, and breathing deeply until the mind settles into a tranquil state. The article invites readers to share their own spaces of tranquility and references the previous day's haiku on the theme of insanity, suggesting a contrast between chaos and peace.

  • Despite not identifying as highly religious, the author appreciates the spiritual aspect and the sense of dharma that these environments provide.
  • The article suggests that moments of silence and deep breathing are effective in quieting the mind and achieving tranquility.
  • The author believes that everyone has their own unique space where they can find peace, whether it's in nature or a quiet corner in the city.
  • There is an implied opinion that the search for inner peace is a universal pursuit, as indicated by the invitation to discuss personal retreats in the comments section.
  • The juxtaposition of yesterday's haiku on insanity with today's on tranquility hints at the author's view that peace and chaos are two sides of the same coin, both integral to the human experience.

Haiku — 0016: Tranquility

As Master Shifu says, “Inner Peace”

A deep breath taken,

The tremors of mind melted,

One with the nature.

Have you ever tried to find that inner peace in the middle of a bustling road, waiting at the traffic lights? Or found a quiet corner, away from everything and everyone, where it’s only you, with you?

For me, it’s mountains and temples. And especially, very old temples. These have a certain way of making one feel at peace that I did not find elsewhere. Perhaps it’s the vastness of a mountain, which immediately makes my presence a mere triviality. For some, the sea brings a similar emotion, and understandably so. And the temple, I can’t put my finger on it exactly. I don’t consider myself super-religious, but I am one for spirituality and the dharma of it.

I would sit in a corner away from others, hopefully, a silent area (not quite the case in several places), and breathe, breathe. A flurry of thoughts would flash through, be it my most immediate concerns, followed by worries of a future, and then some other miscellaneous thoughts. More breathing.

And once the mind runs its course, silence.

Tranquility.
