Haiku — 0015: Insanity
As that saying goes….
Thirsty beast roams,
Chasing summer mirages,
Unto the next creek.
From clarity, let’s come to the other extreme. I started this Haiku with the thought of many titles with positive connotations, like persevering, or unyielding. But ultimately, the negative connotation had a much deeper resonance, both to the poem and the message it embodies. This very famous quote — “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” — has a similar theme, after all. And it hit home much closer, as well.
The line between a determined pursuit and a fruitless endeavor is one I had to learn the hard way in life. Some activities are self-defeating and irrespective of how many times they are tried, they end up the same. In my case, it involved trying to “be part of the group” or “be a good friend” and that type. You know, thinking we can make someone work with us, or we can help someone get better if we try enough.
Sometimes, it is better to not act.
