Guiding Stars in Grandfather’s Gaze
Discover a celestial ode to a grandfather’s watchful love, a journey through the stars that connects generations beyond the veil of time.
This Poem is based on a Prompt From KTHT, by the fantastic Diana C. We have all lost someone over the years, and this one is dedicated to my Grandfather. May he Watch over us and Laugh at our silly antics.
Eyes in the Cosmic Canopy
In the quiet of the evening, when the bustle dims to whispers, And the sky dons its inky cloak with glittering silver slippers, There’s a tale above, so ancient, written in the starry cluster, Of my grandfather’s eyes that gleam — a protective, guiding luster.
He’s the sentinel of nightfall, in the constellations woven, A guardian whose gaze is cast from his celestial coven. Though he sailed beyond the sunset, before you came to be, His legacy, like starlight, touches you and touches me.
In every twinkling pattern, in the tapestry unending, Are his stories and his laughter, his hellos and his mending. He never met my darling, nor cradled our sweet child, But in the stars, their hearts converse, their souls are reconciled.
For you, my love, he would have been a fortress firm and kind, A chuckle in the summer wind, an ally true and blind. And to our little starling, with your eyes so brightly keen, He’d be the whispers in your dreams, felt but still unseen.
The Plough points to the North Star, a steadfast, trusty guide, A symbol of his constancy, his ever-present pride. Orion’s belt, a trio strong, of virtues he held dear, Courage, honour, and wisdom that in you, my dear, appear.
We stand beneath the vastness, under watchful stars so clear, Feeling him in the cool night air, knowing he is near. His love’s not bound by the mortal coil, nor by the earthly shroud, It’s as infinite as the cosmos, as silent and as loud.
As our daughter grows and flourishes, like a sapling to a tree, She’ll learn of him in starlit nights, as you have learnt from me. His tales will be her heritage, his valour her secret charm, With every glance up to the heavens, she’ll find peace and warm.
In the starlight, there is solace, there’s a lineage of grace, A binding, timeless covenant that distance can’t erase. My grandfather’s watchful eyes, in the night sky, find their roam, A million miles away and yet, forever, guiding home.
And when our end of days approach, and to the stars we soar, We’ll join him in the firmament, a reunion evermore. Till then, we’ll live the legacy, the love he did impart, For in the watchful stars above, he’s never truly apart.

Authors Insight
Dear Reader, have you ever gazed up at the night sky and felt a story unfold? I penned “Eyes in the Cosmic Canopy” with a heart full of memories and eyes turned skyward, where the stars twinkle with the essence of my late grandfather.
Each star, a word; each constellation, a chapter of his legacy. He’s there, in the cosmic expanse, watching over us with eyes that once brimmed with laughter and wisdom. Though he departed before meeting my child, I see his qualities reborn in her bright gaze — a lineage of love written in the stars.
In crafting this celestial ode, I wondered, do you feel the presence of those you’ve lost in the quiet of the evening? My verses weave the tale of a guardian whose love transcends the bounds of our earthly realm.
His spirit, a comforting echo in the night’s embrace, assures us that while he may have journeyed beyond the horizon, his guidance remains as steadfast as the North Star.
Through the whispers of the night wind and the silent conversations between the stars and my daughter, his influence endures. In the infinite night, he finds his home, and in our hearts, he remains an eternal guide.
