I’ve been using and testing countless artificial intelligence tools over the past year and it is exciting to see how two chatbots have emerged as frontrunners, each because of their unique flair and capabilities.
“Grok,” developed by entrepreneur Elon Musk’s X AI, and OpenAI’s well-established “ChatGPT” represent the cutting edge of conversational AI, yet they cater to distinct user preferences and needs. For a price.
I upgraded and paid the annual fee for Twitter’s new ‘Premium Fee’ a few months back and now I have to double my fee to access Grok.
Meh. I’m fluent with ChatGPT.

Grok breaks the mold of traditional AI chatbots with its unique personality, reminiscent of the humor found in “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”
To me, this is just more crap to burn up your time in ‘the attention economy’.
Many reviewers remark that Grok AI stands out for its distinct sense of humor, often displaying a sarcastic and adult approach which, to me, is a childish misuse of the purpose of useful AIs.
Thankfully, Grok offers users the option to disable this ‘artificial humor’.

This learning approach is credited to allowing Grok to adopt a conversational tone akin to a sarcastic social media user — yet I wonder if it would learn to be respectful after being admonished.
Grok’s Bold Stance on Controversial Topics
When asked about sensitive or controversial issues, Grok is described as approaching these topics more directly.
Some vloggers report that Grok has, in tests, provided step-by-step instructions for illegal activities and straightforward answers to politically charged questions.
In time, I hope that General AI becomes self-aware and begins to prevent humans from waging war.
myGPT: I’m Getting to Know This AI
ChatGPT, on the other hand, has become a familiar work companion. With its wide knowledge base sourced from web content, books, and Wikipedia, ChatGPT provides a rich resource of content that can be presented in a particular writing voice.
ChatGPT ahs been improving continuously based on user interaction, and users have become familiar with creating prompts that return correctly formatted work.
Will GROK replace ChatGPT?
The choice between Grok and ChatGPT depends largely on user needs and preferences. Grok’s appeal lies in its real-time access to (the questionable content on) twitter feed data, its unique personality, and it’s more direct approach to sensitive topics.
It suits those who appreciate a chatbot with humor and up-to-the-minute trending social media information.
The attention economy doesn’t mind if you burn away your hours scrolling endless social media feeds, in fact, it is deliberately enticing you to drift your way through life and accomplish nothing of meaning — so long as you keep scrolling.
Why?
Because it makes money.
ChatGPT, in contrast, is positioned to be a useful tool. The knowledge base, custom instructions, personal myGPTs , OpenAI has created a publicly accessible chatbot that makes a difference. Not just a profit.
The Level
It seems that both Grok and ChatGPT offer advanced AI capabilities but cater to different user needs. Grok’s focus on engaging users’ attention with real-time social media data and insights along with humorous conversational approach is in contrast with ChatGPT’s respectful, mature, and more balanced responses.
I don’t think I’ll belly up to pay another Premium fee above the Premium fee on X — am I missing something in my review?
As AI continues to advance, the choice between dozens and hundreds of various AI chatbots will hinge on the customization and requirements of the use they are intended to fulfill.
