100 WORDS
Gratitude That Gives Me an Attitude — Sometimes
Thrifty Words 100 Challenge #86: ‘Gratitude’

When people say, “Thank you for your service,” I feel guilty. Why thank me when they paid for my BA degree in journalism and gave me a job I loved for 28 years?
Sure, it fills me with immense pride, but I get a bigger pension than many who work full-time. It’s much more than many get from Social Security. Plus, the Veterans Administration (VA) paid for my second degree, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT).
Sure, times were tough when I was a lower-enlisted Soldier with a family. The pay wasn’t great, but we survived.
I meant to write something like this for Veterans Day, but I got busy and forgot about it until this prompt from TBI. So, thank you, Jonica Bradley and everyone at The Bad Influence, for consistently providing us with prompts.
What do you have to be grateful for this holiday season? Can you tell it in 100 words?
This is my contribution for #85: ‘Liar.’
