What Was The Best Thing That Happened To You Today?

On day 2 of 28 days of gratitude practice — choose your magic rock

Do rocks really hold magic?

I guess it depends on what you believe, yet it’s not so much about the rock, but about an object where you can place your intention.

For day two of our magical gratitude practice (find the series here), we are asked to choose a smooth rock, that fits nicely in our hand, without sharp edges. You can find a rock in a garden, park, beach, or pond. Maybe you already have one.

When you’ve found your rock, keep it by your bedside table, so it is visible. It will become part of your nightly practice.

How to use your magic rock

As you lay down to go to sleep:

Hold the rock in your hand, and think of everything good that happened during your day, big and small. It can be something as simple as ‘I had a healthy breakfast’ or ‘I took a walk around the block’. When you’ve gone through your list, choose the best thing that happened to you, or the thing you’re most grateful for, and then simply say:

Thank you

Return your rock to the table, and continue this for the next 26 days, each night.

The most amazing thing that I noticed in this practice is that my head is full of gratitude before I sleep because I’m thinking of all of the blessings and abundance I have.

Where is the magic? The book says that gratitude is magnetic, and the more you feel, the more an abundance of good things flows into your life.

Good can come in the form of a change in perspective, attitude, a lighter feeling, an overflowing of love, and material wealth. It can be the dissolving of anxiety, and a greater connection to yourself and others. For me, it has been most of these things. I’m humbly waiting for the money to come (smile).

Whatever comes, I will be grateful for it.

I’ve already reaped the rewards just by doing this practice. Yes, it takes work, and yes I fall behind. But it also takes work to be in a bad mood, recover from arguments, and get rid of negative thoughts.

When you’re in a state of gratitude, it’s like a shield of protection. You can’t possibly remain in a negative state when you are continually aware of your blessings.

Day two practice summary:

  1. Repeat the steps of day one of this practice — count your blessings. Make a list of ten things you are grateful for, and then read them and think of why you are grateful (there is a good prompt in the post here). Say thank you, thank you, thank you after each blessing.
  2. Find your magical rock, and place it by your bed.
  3. Before you go to sleep, hold the rock in your hand and think of the best thing that happened to you today, or the one thing you’re most grateful for on this day. Say thank you.
  4. Repeat this practice (counting your blessings, and holding the rock at bedtime) during the next 26 days.

In preparation for day 3:

  1. Find three photographs of people who are very special to you (it doesn’t matter if they are alone in the picture or not). This is in preparation for day three.

Be grateful for what you have and the Universe will bring you what you need.

Life is challenging, but there are so many ways to make it simpler and happier, and it all starts with recognizing the miracle of our life, and the little things that we can be grateful for every day.

Thank you for joining me in this practice. I’m blessed to be part of your journey.

Namaste🙏🏾
