Summary

Google has launched Gemini for developers, providing access to its AI technology to compete with Microsoft and OpenAI in the AI space, and is integrating AI applications into its Office and Cloud services.

Abstract

Google has announced the availability of its AI model Gemini to developers, marking a significant move to rival Microsoft and OpenAI in the AI domain. Despite initial skepticism due to a misleading AI demo, Google is accelerating its AI efforts by lowering prices and offering external developers access to Google AI Studio for building AI applications. This includes integrating AI capabilities into Google Office and Cloud products, such as Vertex AI and Duet AI, aiming to regain its leadership in artificial intelligence. Google's strategy involves leveraging its strengths in Data Warehousing, Data Science, and BI, while Microsoft continues to advance with its own AI solutions like Microsoft Fabric.

Opinions

  • Google's initial Gemini AI demo was perceived as misleading, creating doubt about the authenticity of the technology.
  • The tech community is critical of Google's approach, questioning the reality of the AI capabilities presented in the demo.
  • Google is seen as playing catch-up in the AI race, with Microsoft and OpenAI currently leading the field.
  • There is an expectation that Google will strengthen its AI models and integrate them more deeply into its product ecosystem to remain competitive.
  • The opening of Gemini to external developers is a strategic move to foster innovation and expand the Google AI ecosystem.
  • The competition between Google and Microsoft in AI capabilities is intensifying, with both companies rapidly advancing their AI offerings in cloud services and office productivity tools.

Google wants to catch up with Microsoft and OpenAI in the area of ChatBots and AI. Now, they have announced the further development and availability of their AI model Gemini.

Not long ago, Google tricked us all with a video that presented Gemini, an extremely powerful language model that is intended to compete with GPT-4 & Co. But it seems that the impressive AI demo was an almost complete fake. An impressive video was shown that supposedly showed the interaction with the AI. Now it is clear that large parts of the video are not real[1][2].

Google is now stepping up the pace and lowering prices in the competition for artificial intelligence. The company has opened up access to its latest AI technology to external developers on several levels so that they can write specific programs based on the new technology[3][4]. Faster than expected, Google is now giving external developers the opportunity to write their own applications based on Gemini. This concerns the Google AI Studio development environment, which can be used to build smaller AI applications[3].

As an example, Google demonstrated the programming of an app for real estate agents that can write a detailed description of the property based on a video recording of a tour of a house. Gemini applications were also demonstrated in Vertex AI, an AI service from the Google Cloud for companies, as well as in Duet AI, an AI solution for Google’s Office applications[3][4].

So it seems that Google is now back in the game by integrating such AI models into Google Office and Cloud products and services is something that Microsoft are also doing with great speed. Google was long regarded as the leader in artificial intelligence, but then the internet pioneer fell behind. A year ago, the Start Up OpenAI surprisingly took the lead with the release of its chat bot ChatGPT.

Google is now also becoming stronger in this area and is likely to link its AI capabilities with Google Office as well as important services from the cloud. Google has some of the greatest strengths in the areas of Data Warehousing, Data Science and BI and should further strengthen its AI models, but Microsoft has also caught up here, for example with Microsoft Fabric, which should significantly increase the data flow, analysis and processing for AI models.
