DEJA VU AT PAPER POETRY
Golden Dreams of Days Gone By
Ode to Romanticized Reflections
Sunflower field, and rocking chair To ease the weary from my limbs, To coax a smile, erase a tear, Calm heart within.
Blooms gentle froing in the breeze, Eyes softly close in golden glow, Exhale of breath — pressure release, A sigh. Let go.
I drift on wispy clouds of Time, Dawdle on girlhood’s long lost lanes, Rose-tint spectacles — all is fine, Mind-suppress pain!
Palpable yearning of my heart, Romancing treasured times of youth, Glorious days that ever stalled — Longing slays truth.
Allow my dreams in fields of gold A heroine victorious. Fantasy world, achieving goals, Life glorious!
If I remain within this place Where truth of memory is fake, With joyful smile on wrinkled face, Oh, please, don’t wake!
This is my first attempt at a Sapphic Ode in iambic tetrameter — English style. I found the form quite fascinating and engrossing to write. I would love to see others’ versions. Raine Lore
