Summary

The website content is an ekphrastic sunflower poem titled "A Little Jar of Sunshine," which reflects on shared memories and love, symbolized by sunflowers, and is dedicated to someone who has passed away.

Abstract

The poem "A Little Jar of Sunshine" is a poignant tribute to a lost loved one, capturing the essence of fond memories spent in nature. It reminisces about walks through golden sunflower fields under cornflower skies, symbolizing the joy and passion of the relationship. The poem contrasts the vibrant past with a present where a single, wilting sunflower represents the poet's sorrow. In an act of remembrance and enduring love, the poet offers a jar of sunflowers as a token of their shared history and a beacon of their enduring love.

PROMPT RESPONSE: EKPHRASTIC SUNFLOWER POEM

A Little Jar of Sunshine

My gift of love to you

We often wandered far and wide Through fields of glory sun, Gath’ring sheaves of golden orbs, Until the day was done.

Cornflower skies and green-gold fields Filled our passion days. Mist of love and dreams unfurled In idle yellow haze.

It honors not, our glory hours, One sad and drooping bloom — With leaden heart, I draw some more To decorate your tomb.

I’m leaving you this offering, In rinsed out chutney jar, A shining symbol of our days; Love’s beacon from afar.

With thanks, Carolyn Hastings, for this sunflower ekphrastic poetry prompt:
