But Medium isn’t a one-trick pony, as is writing for a magazine or other media outlet. You send in your article and wait for your paycheck. Over and out.

Our work on Medium is evergreen. We post it on the platform where it lives until we take it down. A piece can die a quiet death, then suddenly come back to life when the algorithm discovers it months later and features it on the front page.

We can help that process along by promoting our backlist at the end of our articles. Also, we can engage with other Medium members, and, if we we’re lucky, they will become new fans and followers who’ll continue to give life to our work.

But how do you find like-minded readers from the many thousands on the platform? It’s a fun but painstaking process. You must comb through your feed, and then go searching through categories for articles you want to read, making sure to leave comments for the author, with the hope they’ll return the favor.

Slowly, you can build a following this way. It’s how I’ve gone from zero to over 4K in my 14 months on the platform.

But Dr. Mehmet Yildiz on ILLUMINATION has made that task much easier for us. Through his tireless promotion of the publication and the writers who contribute, he highlights each day dozens of us as we get curated or publish interesting topics or introduce ourselves, or simply appear in ILLUMINATION.

I read early on as I searched for the secret to success on Medium, that I should read and comment on 20 new articles a day to build my stable of followers and fans.

While I was happy to read and comment, the effort of finding material of interest dragged on my time. But when I open Dr. Yildez posts, I find old friends and new. He does half the job for me of finding the best writers and putting them at my fingertips.
