Ghosts of Old
A Poem of Love

All of his worries about homework, Made a swift depart.
He wrote her every day, On the paper of his heart.
He came upon ideas, How would he ask her for prom?
Then he had fears, She, the Homecoming Queen, And He, the boy from a farm.
His heart brewed, A fresh, strong pain, Grasping with the reality.
His mind was deluded, But the feeling was real, Battled for a man’s sanity.
He didn’t even go, Instead, played a video game.
But she went with his foe, Posting cute pics on Instagram.
They walked the stage, He was right behind her.
End of their teenage phase, He got a few claps, and she got cheers.
Two souls on separate strands, Over time are guided by faith’s hand.
He sees her again, A reality he could not trust.
Once who resided in his heart, His first love, his high school crush.
But years have passed, And life has grown.
He has built a world, With the love of his own.
On the river of her eyes, He could see his past.
A love that was naive and young, but it couldn’t last.
He already had his family, He loved them like an undying spree.
But he was tempted, By the ghosts of old.
He fought it, His family was his gold.
It was for his wife and children, Remembering his vows.
His past, present, and future, A treasure far beyond all bounds.
Once upon a time, I heard a story from someone sitting at the table beside me. He was a happily married man with children. But his high school crush and first love, who did not give him any attention in school, returned to his life and wanted to be with him. But he decided to stay faithful to his wife. The poem talks about maturing and being loyal to the ones who have been there for you.
