Summary

The website content is an excerpt from Sana Rose's second novel, discussing the concept of ghosts as metaphors for haunting thoughts and past regrets, with additional promotional links to other writings by the author and her social media profiles.

Abstract

The excerpt titled "Ghosts" from Sana Rose's second novel delves into the idea of ghosts not as supernatural entities but as manifestations of one's own memories and regrets. The author expresses envy towards those who believe in ghosts that don't exist, as the real haunting comes from the ghosts of our past that we carry within our memories. Sana Rose reflects on the cliché "ghosts from the past" and questions how one might ward them off, suggesting that there is no physical remedy for these spectral thoughts. The text emphasizes the torment of the idea that one could have done better in life, likening the process of moving on to an exorcism that requires forgetting one's past and potential selves. The website also provides links to other excerpts and writings by the author, inviting readers to explore more of her work and to connect with her on social media platforms.

Opinions

  • The author, Sana Rose, admits to envying those who fear non-existent ghosts, implying that the fear of actual memories is more distressing.
  • The phrase "ghosts from the past" is acknowledged as a cliché, yet the author ponders its significance and the difficulty of escaping these ghosts.
  • There is a sense of futility in trying to ward off these metaphorical ghosts, as traditional ghost-repelling methods (like holy symbols, mirrors, or wind chimes) are ineffective against memories.
  • The author suggests that the most haunting ghost is the thought of personal shortcomings and missed opportunities.
  • The process of letting go of these haunting thoughts is compared to an exorcism, which would entail a significant loss of one's identity and potential.
  • Sana Rose is presented as a multifaceted individual: an award-nominated novelist, physician, counseling professional, freelance writer, and mom, based in Kerala, India.
  • The website encourages engagement with the author's other works and social media presence, indicating a strategic effort to build a readership and online following.

Ghosts

Have you seen them?

I envy people who actually believe in ghosts.

They fear something that does not exist. But for those who don’t, the ghosts are real and constantly haunting.

‘Ghosts from the past’ is quite a clichéd expression. However, what could be done to ward them off?

There is no holly that makes them stay put or turn away, no mirror that would crack at their presence and no wind chimes to signal the arrival of ghosts from the past when it is all in your goddamn memories.

And when they visit, the creaks and screeches can get to the nerves if you were not exactly clean. Not for me. But seems like some people are hell-bent on keeping the noises down.

But, nothing haunts me like the ghost of the thought that I could have done better. To exorcise would mean to lose your mind. Forget who you were. Forget who you had become. And forgo who you could have been.
