To Love Is To Make Them Feel Loved

If not, why bother?

“The plight of the loved but untouched is sadder than that of the unloved.”

If not to make someone feel loved, what is the point of you loving them? I have asked this question to myself and to the world in various forms, time and again. Everyone loves in different ways. Some express it profoundly, some keep tabs on how much they show someone their love. Some are scared to expose their own vulnerability when they love but then, needing is not wrong. Some shy away from showing love, take people for granted, think they do not need to be touched, hugged or kissed to be anchored. Some love like they possess the other person.

And yet to a lot of people, loving is controlling. And they think controlling is caring. No, dear people. Loving is simply loving. Giving your affection to someone. Perhaps, it is conditional or unconditional, tapped or untapped, measured or reciprocated. But here's the thing about love — if or when you love, make them feel loved. Whether you are a parent, a friend, a spouse or a lover, when you love, let them see it, let them feel it and let them glow because of it.

Loving is simply loving.

Do not cage them in your love misconceiving loving to be keeping. Do not think loving is being the lighthouse always, because sometimes loving is being a ship in need of guidance, sailing askew in the stormy ocean and being at the heels of those you love. Sometimes, it is letting them hold the torch, and being there as they step forward.

And yet, sometimes loving is just making them feel loved - ultimately, that's what counts.

Note:

Some thoughts cannot be held in a poem. They need to flow beyond the lines and stanzas. They need to be told like a story, yet retain the rhythm of poetry. Such thoughts, I write in snippets of prose (or is it called prose poetry? I don’t know). They may or may not form part of my books, but right now, this is what it is — musings, prose snippets, ruminations.
