Getting Lost in the Medium Stats

No Matter What You Write About, Reading This Might Refresh Your Passion

Dear Medium Partner Program Writer,

I know this isn’t the usual topic I delve into, but like you, I too find myself getting lost in Medium stats now and then.

Even as someone who typically dives into deeper topics, I notice how I still focus on what works better in terms of numbers.

It starts innocently. A quick check to see how my latest piece is doing. But soon, I find myself digging deeper into the stats, analyzing what worked and what didn’t.

While this isn’t bad, it’s easy to forget why we started writing in the first place.

It wasn’t for the claps or the follows, but for the love of sharing ideas, sparking discussions, and maybe, just maybe, making a tiny difference in someone’s life.

So, even as we check our stats, let’s not forget the heart of why we write.

The numbers are good to know, but the impact we make, the thoughts we share, that’s what truly matters.

Let’s get back to what we love most — writing what matters, stats or no stats.

Writing with a purpose. Perhaps that purpose is aiding people in awakening, helping individuals find their life’s purpose, or assisting them with their financial, health, or mental goals.

No matter what you truly aspire to do, keep pursuing what you love.

I understand that many on this platform are here to build a substantial secondary income or even desire to leave their 9–5 jobs to write about what they are passionate about.

However, burning out to earn more from what you enjoy doing won’t necessarily make you happier or more fulfilled.

In the worst case, it may dull the passion you initially had for writing because you’re only aiming to create what’s going to be viral, not what you love to write about and what brings you into a flow state.

But perhaps, a good balance of both is the ideal approach? Share your thoughts below.
