Gardening in My Soul

Haiku

Guest Prompt Week 3, Day 1: “In life eventually we learn to plant our own gardens instead of waiting for others to bring us flowers. How are you preparing and taking care of your own garden?”

Orchids are my favorite plant, they are exquisite and quite lovely. However, I am yet to successfully care for one of them. Each time I was gifted an orchid or if I purchased one for myself, they ended up dying for one reason or another. Eventually, I blamed their demise on everything but me.

exquisite beauty elegant in all your ways you are perfection.

In hindsight, those orchids stood no chance because during that time in my life, I was very distracted and made no time to care for anything but myself. I was busy running around in the Matrix, mesmerized by the plethora of short-term joys.

I do understand that it takes a lot of time and patience to care for delicate orchids, and they must have the right conditions in order for them to grow. I was a lost person, empty on the inside, and those were terrible conditions for a tender orchid to thrive and grow.

Just like any plant, the right conditions are needed for our souls to flourish. And the seeds that were planted in the garden located within our hearts should be nurtured and nourished. For years, the soil in my garden lacked the nourishment it needed to grow flowers.

Our souls cannot be forced to grow, but like flowers, our spiritual selves can be nurtured until they blossom and flourish. — James Van Praagh

Unaware and disillusioned, I dedicated a lot of time waiting for someone to bring me flowers or to provide the water needed for my garden. At that point, I failed to realize that though flowers and water from others can be lovely and hydrating, the flowers eventually died, and the water source went completely dry. Therefore, it was then that I made the decision to grow my own flowers and water my own garden.

I have learned to give my garden the nourishment it needs to produce beautiful flowers. Consequently, I began to water my garden every day and I have become kinder and gentler with it. Next, I removed all the toxic weeds that were present from years of failed cultivation. Finally, I loosened the soil so that the seeds had enough room to breathe.

In time, my garden flourished filled with vibrant radiant flowers. With the necessary care, it has been transformed into a magical oasis. A sanctuary of blossoms penetrated with loving energy, playing soothing rhythms of nature’s frequencies, filled with flowing water infusing each root with its pure essence.

Vicky Prokopi, thank you for creating this prompt as I was able to revisit the experience I had with my orchids and the state of mind I was in. Like you, I have had many failed relationships and during that time, I failed to nourish my garden as well as those tender orchids. Discovering self-love and self-care created the pathway for me to nurture my heart and eventually, I grew my own flowers. The best part about my own flowers is that they won’t wither and die. I will not allow that to happen now that I am aware of the beauty that lives within my heart.

Thank you all for reading. And thank you Diana C. for creating the space so that we all can revisit stages in our lives, tell our stories, grow, and heal. KTHT has been a rollercoaster, one that I don’t mind riding.
