From Poop to Paint: How much money is this shit worth?
Well that’s one way of recycling waste.
Move over, Jackson Pollock. There’s a new artist in town, and her name is… poop. Yes, you read that right. People are creating beautiful pieces of art from their own and their pet’s waste products. And believe it or not, this type of artwork can sell for thousands of dollars.
But is it just a pile of shit?
What do you do when your dog or cat leaves a present for you on the lawn? If you’re like most people, you probably clean it up and curse under your breath.
But what if you could take that waste and turn it into a work of art?
Believe it or not, there are artists out there who use their own and their pet’s poop to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art.
And not suprisingly, these pieces can sell for quite a bit of money.
I have written a lot about animal poop lately; from why dogs eat it to how to make money from rabbit poop. But I wanted to change it up so I decided to explore the world of poop art!
Here’s what I found…
I think it all began way back in the happy hippy days…
During the 1960s, Italian contemporary artist Piero Manzoni, known for his work with turds, canned his own feces and named the resulting masterpiece “artist’s shit.”
His first works were priced at $37. In 2007, Manzoni’s “work” sold up to $181,374. Now that’s some serious shit!
Chris Ofili produced a number of works from elephant dung in the 1990s.
An entire gallery exhibition was named “I Poop You” by artists in the California Bay area in 2013. It was a one-night show.
Then there’s Abraham Cruzvillegas Sheep shit sculpture…
Artist KATSU rocked to the world with a portrait of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg painted from feces.
While the Internet entrepreneur isn’t necessarily considered the world’s most liked person, being painted from excrement is a very direct representation of KATSU’s actual sentiments regarding Zuckerberg — he’s shit!
Artist ‘Gold Poo’ claimed to be responsible for bedazzling dog poop in Brooklyn with a gold spray.

Terence Koh, a sensationalist artist, claimed to have sold his own gold-painted feces for $500,000.
Siobhan Meow, the ultimate cat lady (she had more than 100 cats) from New York’s East Village, has been painting cat murals since the mid-nineties. For her pictures of her many felines, she uses a mix of fur, urine, and — yes! — poop.

While I am not an art critic, I think that much of the “poop” art mentioned in this article is nothing more than a pile of crap. That being said, there are a few artists out there who have managed to create something interesting and unique from their pet’s waste products. And while some people may find it disgusting, others ( including myself) find it fascinating.
What do you think? Would you ever buy or create a piece of poop art?
What’s the definition of surprise?
A fart with a lump in it.
