Friendship Across the Miles

C’mon, August, get here already

I haven’t seen my best friend in over two years. We did everything together for 20 years. My parents considered her a second daughter. Then, I got married and moved across the country.

We’d catch up at the holidays. I’d go to stay with her for a week in December when I was home for Christmas, and she’d come down to my parents’ for the weekend at Mother’s Day.

We didn’t do that in 2019. My mother died that spring, and I spent my full Christmas vacation with my dad. Then, Covid. I’m finally going home again for a week in August. She’s coming down for the weekend, to see me and the rest of the family.

I can hardly wait to see her again! Phone calls just aren’t the same.
