Freelance Writing Opportunities — Call for Submissions and Call For Pitches
Freelance Writing — 48 Writing Calls For Submissions (as of 04/04/22) — Paid Writing Opportunities For Nonfiction, Journalism, Art, Poetry, and Fiction
Here are the latest calls for submission, pitches, and expiring writing opportunities.
Welcome to this week’s roundup of writing calls for pitches and submissions. This week I have 48 different publications and websites currently looking for writers. These could be magazines that recently opened their submissions up, fast-approaching deadlines, shout out from editors looking for something specific right now, or just reminders that they are always open for pitches.
I cover all kinds of writing opportunities. These markets could be fiction, nonfiction, reported pieces, or poetry. Sometimes, these markets are also looking for artwork or photography.
All 48 markets in this article pay their contributors. A good portion of them either pay more than $100.00 minimum, or writers have the potential to make at least $100.00. Although, I do include some lower-paying opportunities as well.
Each of the freelance writing listings in this article will contain the following:
- The name of the publication, anthology, or contest.
- Some way to contact them (at least one of the following — a link to their published guidelines, Twitter handle, or email address).
- What type of writing they are looking for.
- How much they pay.
- Deadline, if any.
I am now including opportunities that I have mentioned before, and the deadline is within 7–13 days which I published the article.
When you scroll through these listings, you may notice this:
**UPCOMING DEADLINE**
That is how I am indicating that less than 2 weeks are left on that writing opportunity!
Good luck finding the perfect writing market for your nonfiction, fiction, and poetry!

Auroras and Blossoms
Looking For: Fiction, Nonfiction, and Art
Payment: Royalties (1% per accepted piece)
Deadline: December 31
This publication was brought to my attention by fellow Mediumier (sorry for the made-up word), Cendrine Marrouat. Cendrine is one of the co-founders of Auroras and Blossoms — and as a good writing community, I feel like we should be supporting one another, especially when it comes to publications. There is a submission fee of $12.00 for entry, but that covers 3 entries.
What you would be submitting for is PoArtMo Anthology: Volume 3. PoArtMo stands for Positive Actions Rally Thoughts & Momentum. The work that you will submit will be positive and uplifting, family-friendly, only have clean language, and be inclusive and respectful to everyone.
They do not take poetry, simultaneous submissions, or previously published work. However, they are looking for short stories, flash fiction, essays, paintings, drawings, photography, and digital art.
I am going to be completely honest here. I do not include a ton of opportunities that require a fee, and I rarely include anthologies or other works that pay almost exclusively in royalties. The reason is that I like to be able to tell my writers exactly how much they can make. I feel like royalties are too vague.
I am making an exception for this publication for multiple reasons. One — of course, a Medium member in our wonderful writing community, asked me to — and I am all about supporting other writers and creators — after all, that is why I make these lists. Two — I love the theme of positivity and upliftment. I feel like we can all use some of that in our life, perhaps, more than ever. Three — the royalties are 1% per piece, so technically, you could get more than 1%, AND they are ongoing, not a one-time payment. Four — Sometimes, writing to write or getting a great byline and clip for your portfolio is worth something.
So check it out and see if this is something you would be interested in doing. Even if you want to focus on paid opportunities right now, you can bookmark it and come back later when you have more time, as the deadline is more than 8 months away!
