POEM: BELIEVING IN YOURSELF

Freedom From the Cage

Don’t let anything or anyone hold you back from your purpose.

If I got my life straightened out, would you love me more or less? Would you wonder or look at me the same? Are you holding me back while I lose instead of prospering? Is your belief in me only with conditions, or can I fail and still begin again?

Do I stay, or do I walk away? How far would I have to go? I see my path ahead; you say you’ll travel too but sit down far too long. If I don’t go now, I don’t know if I’ll find myself again. My conditions never end, so I’ll find my way out and on that road ahead.

I hold everything I want to be inside me, and the dream is just the same. I won’t learn to live without it. It beats my heart through pain. My doubt and second-guesses shed from my skin forevermore. No more glancing backward as this rupture brings me freedom from the cage.
