The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly difficult on frontline healthcare workers. Charles C. Benight, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, has studied the impact of the pandemic on such workers and is among the many voices noting that frontline healthcare workers are exhausted from trying to cope both at work and at home. “They’re trying to make sure that their families are safe [and] they’re frustrated over not having the pandemic under control,” said Benight. “Those things create the sort of burnout, trauma, and stress that lead to the mental health challenges we’re seeing among these caregivers.”

With over 75% of the frontline healthcare workforce expressing high levels of anxiety, direct healthcare company Nomi Health has announced that it will sponsor $1 million in mental healthcare services for frontline workers in various states.

The program will provide healthcare workers who live in states where Nomi Health has a strong presence with access to no-cost therapy and mental health services, including up to 12 free sessions per person. The program will launch in Florida, Texas, and Utah on May 1, 2022, and in Colorado, Hawaii, and Nebraska on June 1, 2022.

“Our front line workers continue to grapple with the stark realities of the past two years. They endured the most grueling circumstances, putting themselves and their families at risk while also enduring political divisiveness, extreme conditions and public tensions,” said Nomi Health Founder and CEO Mark Newman. Newman added that Nomi Health saw this important work, “as one way we can support those who stepped up and sacrificed so much for us over the last two years.”

Utah-based Nomi Health uses an innovative platform to lower healthcare costs and widen access to care, which features local clinical and operations field teams, a sustainable supply chain, and seven networked laboratories. Nomi Health provides a business operating system and payment platform that enables organizations to purchase healthcare directly while also enabling providers to be reimbursed in real-time.

Services will be provided by the online mental health company Tava Health, which offers online therapy and mental health education through partnerships with various healthcare institutions.

“Tava is able to overcome a lot of barriers that healthcare employees face when finding care, specifically mental health services, by providing free, online therapy at flexible hours,” said Dallen Allred, Co-Founder, and CEO of Tava Health. “The response we get from our healthcare customers has been overwhelmingly positive,”

More information for individuals interested in the program and how to apply, or for organizations interested in offering this benefit to their employees, may be found on Tava Health’s website.
