Fred Has Fun: With A Parrot
One of Fred’s “Did you hear the one about …?” fun stories.
Did you hear the one about the parrot? …

“Did you hear the one about …?” is a phrase used by people who like to share fun stories. Most of my ‘fun’ stories are ones that end with a punch line, and this one — about a parrot — doesn’t disappoint. I hope that you enjoy it.
Setting the scene for ‘The Parrot story’:
I don’t know where I first heard this one, but it’s been fixed in my memory for years, and every time I come across the word ‘parrot’, see an actual parrot, or even a parrot photo, I always always think of ‘The Parrot Story’.
So, I’d like to share my enthusiasm for this story with you, so that perhaps it might have the same effect on you. I hope it does (for the nicest of reasons).
It begins with an intended burglary! … Let’s begin:
‘The Parrot Story’ gets underway:
The story begins in the dead of night, when a burglar was planning to break into a large house. He got himself prepared: darkish clothing, cap & mask, a couple of ‘magic’ keys, jemmy-tool, and of course, a bag to put his loot into. He was the epitome of the classic thief:

Arriving at his target property, he went around the back to find the entrance to the kitchen and as quietly as he could, he tried his keys … one of them did the trick … he was in!
It was a moonless night, but he didn’t want to shine a light, so he groped his way along the floor, feeling the furniture and the walls whilst trying to get his eyes accustomed to the darkness. At one point his hand brushed against a light switch, but he immediately pulled his hand away; he didn’t want to light up the room!
He was glad to find a switch though, remembering a previous burglary when he had been interrupted unexpectedly by the householder. He’d flicked a light switch then, and been able to identify a quick escape route. Tonight, his confidence was high now that he knew where the switch was, and he took a breather
He sat on the floor … quietly sensing his surroundings.
Preparing for the final scene:
His now dark-accustomed eyes completed a full scan of the room, and he was now ready to continue when something happened that he could have never anticipated.
He heard the voice of God!
God said to him: “Jesus is watching you. Jesus is watching you,” and being a God-fearing catholic boy, his reaction was immediate.
His arm automatically reached for the light switch, and the room was floodlit!
The final scene for ‘The story’:
He was so shocked that he wasn’t able to do much else but sit there on the floor, trembling in fear of heavenly retribution to come, but then he saw it at the end of the room … a tall cabinet … on top of which was perched a parrot!
The parrot squawked out the message: “Jesus is watching you. Jesus is watching you.”
Can you imagine the burglar’s relief?
The parrot repeated the message: “Jesus is watching you. Jesus is watching you.”
And then, the burglar’s eyes looked down to the bottom of the cabinet. There, sitting with a drooling mouth was a large Rottweiler dog.
The parrot then also looked down, and said: “Get him Jesus! Get him Jesus!”
What happened next is up to your imagination.
The Takeaway…
Remember: wherever you go, whatever you do, “Jesus is watching you.”

Happy reading … Fred
