Born Frederick Austerlitz on 05/10/1899 in Nebraska, he studied dancing and formed a vaudeville act with his sister.

They made their Broadway debut in Over the Top, For Goodness Sake, Funny Face, and The Band Wagon.
When his sister retired, RKO paired Astaire with Ginger Rogers in Flying Down to Rio, The Gay Divorcee, Top Hat, and Swing Time
Other partners were, Eleanor Powell, Rita Hayworth Judy Garland Barrie Chase, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, the Three Stooges, and Gene Kelly in That’s Entertainment, Part II.
Astaire’s most-notable dramatic roles were in On the Beach , The Pleasure of His Company, and The Towering Inferno. He received an Oscar nomination. And won an honorary Academy Award.
Astaire died 06/22/1987 in Los Angeles, California.
Very few people know about his problem with dyslexia.
