Four Annoyances of Travel

These are personal to me for sure

I love traveling and I do it with a passion.

Many of the things I list here as annoyances of travel are very personal to me and based on my tolerance levels. For example, the long lines to clear security or the immigration lines when we arrive at a new place are what I expect. Of course, I don’t like waiting in line but I accept it as part of travel and can deal with it.

Linda Ng wrote about her annoyances with travel. I relate to her struggles with jet lag and clean toilets for sure. There are a few others I can add to my list.

#1. Constipation

I’ve already shared my struggles with constipation using El Caganer as the hook, so I won’t repeat it again. It definitely has to do with the change in time and a new environment. I am marching ahead into my next trip with some magnesium, so thank you Medium friends for your suggestion!

With all the intricate planning, sometimes I can’t help when Mr. Murphy is in full effect. Everything that can go wrong will go wrong!

#2. Flight delays/ Missed connections

There is nothing more annoying than dealing with things that are not in my control. What is most annoying to me is the delays in flight, especially when the chess pieces need to be moved in order to make a connection.

Dealing with rebooking a flight, finding a hotel last minute, or slumming it in the airport are all too annoying. Yes, there are valuable life lessons to be learned in the process. It happened to me in February. Once we accept the situation and stay calm it becomes easier to deal with all the inconveniences that hit us, all at the same time.

#3. People snoring

I know, I warned you that this list would be very personal to me. It doesn’t happen often, but nothing more annoying than someone snoring so loudly that I have trouble falling asleep. It happened in February when we had to sleep overnight at the Miami airport.

There were two men who were sitting at least 15 feet away, but they were so loud I had trouble sleeping. Using earphones may have helped, but I think it was the general annoyance of the situation that made me hyperfocus on the snoring.

#4. Where are the trash cans?

Have you been to places where there is no trash can in the vicinity? I’ve had that happen in several places. I want to throw away something and I can’t find a trash can in sight. I end up carrying the trash with me for hours before I can get rid of it where it rightfully belongs.

None of the annoyances will prevent me from traveling. Do you have some to add to your list? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments section. If you’d like to join medium to read my work and that of other writers, you can do so using the referral link.
