Summary

The undefined website presents a poetry prompt for February/March 2024 titled "Forest Moments," inviting writers to connect with nature and share their poetic reflections, with a round-up of submissions planned by the end of the month.

Abstract

The undefined website has announced the DEP Poetry Prompt for February/March 2024, themed "Forest Moments," encouraging poets to explore their relationship with nature through their writing. The prompt is inspired by the author's recent experiences in the forest, including participation in incorporation practices, a Mirroring workshop, and time spent in observation and self-reflection. The author, Gabriella, has shared a personal poem titled "Forest Walk" to illustrate the theme and has included a video of a silent forest walk to further inspire poets who may not have the opportunity to venture into nature themselves. Submissions to the prompt will be reviewed and featured in a round-up by the end of the month, aligning with other prompts in the publication. The website also provides links to previous poetry prompts, the author's Medium page, and contact information for further engagement with the Dancing Elephants Press community.

Opinions

  • The author values the restorative and inspirational power of nature, as evidenced by their time spent in the forest and the emphasis on observing and connecting with the natural world.
  • Gabriella believes in the importance of taking time to properly engage with and reflect on the poetry submitted to the column, indicating a deep respect for the contributors and their work.
  • The author encourages authenticity and self-expression, as seen in the exhortation to "Speak your truth" and "Sing with the voice of angels."
  • There is an appreciation for the cyclical nature of life and growth, as suggested by the imagery of fallen trees showing new growth and the metaphor of a burning fire turning to coal.
  • The author sees poetry as a means of spreading positivity and fostering a supportive community, as indicated by the thank you note to the writers for poetry and the invitation to join the DEP Community on Whatsapp.
  • Gabriella is open to feedback and inclusive of the community, offering a way for writers to opt out of being tagged and providing multiple channels for communication and engagement.

Many of you know that I spent the last 5 days out in the forest. I was participating in incorporation practices after I was out in the land fasting last year. I also participated in a Mirroring workshop. I spent a lot of time outside observing nature, not being disturbed by technology, and working on my inner self as well as supporting others.

I did not have time to do a proper round-up for this prompt and will do one in the near future. I appreciate all the amazing poetry you have sent to the poetry column and I want to give proper time and look and spend time reading and reflecting on your work.

I decided to do a round-up by the end of the month and the prompts will be closer to the middle of the month to fit in with the other prompts in the publication.

Forest Walk

Stepping into the path, Leading me to luscious greens, Walking this path With the intent to see.

Moment by moment I am amazed.

The river stops by, Showing beautiful sounds, The crystal-clear water Moves with a gentle music.

The forest’s harmony Is as beautiful as a magical symphony. The colors and sounds Nourish and calm my inner soul.

I feel my heart slowing down.

Looking with awe, the magical realm: I am truly here.

Looking for answers, Nature comes through. Finding a tree old and fallen. I see the faces of the one forgotten.

The opening mouth forms the words.

Speak your truth. Show your voice. Scream to the world loudly, With sounds, no one can ignore.

Be truly you with all your being. Sing my darling, With the voice of angels. Let people hear nature’s ordeal.

Fallen trees showing new growth, Bright new ferns provide a new path. Crossing a forest I see something new. The burning fire turning to coal.

People walking their forever path.

The laughing tree said: You better go and forget the past. A bright new future is laid ahead.

Laugh with joy and dance today. Celebrate me with fun and play. Enjoy life to the fullest heart. Sing the song of the forever land.
