For my children
A Poem

whenever I can, I slip into their rooms as silence blankets their peaceful form a Universe nourishes me with delight at their faces, so open and clear as they sleep
though their eyes are closed by dark lashes kissing cotton candy cheeks, I pretend I hear their dreams — graceful and lovely magical and secret
how do I witness this beauty when day after day I fail as steward to their divinity? how do I hold sacred without smothering, love them without altering the structure, genius, oh! the miracle of their one precious life?
as I sit in the stillness, as I greet this hopeful morning, I am humbled by the gift of their presence I kneel at the altar of gratitude, knowing today I will try again, knowing today that is enough
