For Every $10 I Earn On Medium…
Here’s what I will do

Just like many people who joined Medium, I’m looking to diversify my income streams and find an additional way to monetize my writing.
Before I get into what I will do with my Medium earnings, I want to share my writing background with you and how I ended up here.
I’ve been writing since 2013 and my first blog failed miserably even though I interviewed well known models, photographers and even some celebrities on it.
Part of the reason it failed was because, ultimately, the niche I picked wasn’t something I was truly passionate about. After a while, it became a chore to write. So, I quit writing that blog.
However, I might take some of the best articles from that blog that fit the niche of my new blog, revise them and publish them. I might even publish them on Medium after a few edits.
My new blog is a wellness lifestyle blog with a primary focus on running, which is my biggest passion in life. I can never stop talking or writing about running and fitness. If you would like to check it out, the website link is www.yanahempler.com.
I’ve had some success with my new blog, which I’ve also been writing since late 2013. I’ve received some great gifts from sponsors, made some money writing sponsored posts and got paid to write for some magazines as a result of my blog. I also got some new clients, which were worth a lot of money, as a result of my blog. I’m grateful for every opportunity that came my way as a result of writing my wellness blog.
Now, enter Medium.
I can import articles from my blog and publish them on Medium after tweaking them a little bit. Medium also exposes my content to people who may not have found it otherwise.
The first article that I published on Medium made me 11 cents in one day (yes, I know it’s not much). However, that was enough to encourage me to keep publishing here.
Below are my top 5 highest earning articles on Medium:
- How I Qualified for the Boston Marathon
- Are Your Easy Runs too Fast?
- Running 6 Marathons in 3 Years Helped Me Save for a Down Payment
- My Definition of a Real Runner
- How I Again Found Joy From Running
As you can see, all my top earning articles so far are about running.
With that in mind, for every $10 that I earn from Medium, here’s what I will do:
- Donate 20% of it to a local charity. I’m super passionate about helping local charities. I’ve even run 30 Marathons in 30 days and raised almost $100,000 for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation. I want to be able to give more and more each time.
- Invest 80% of it into a passive income stream, primarily dividend stocks. Investing for the future is super important, regardless of what age you are. My goal is to have enough dividend income to retire comfortably and enjoy life in retirement.
- I will donate a piece of clothing to Our Place Society for every $10 generated from Medium. Our Place Society is a local organization that helps the homeless. They provide food, clothing, shelter and other resources to those who need it.
How are you spending your Medium earnings?
