For Ahmaud Arbery Justice Came Home to Roost

How evil racist murderous mindsets need to be taken off the street.

Almost two years ago, Feb. 23, 2020, the world shall never forget that infamous day as Ahmaud Arbery, 25 year old unarmed Black man, was jogging down a public street like all other joggers before and after him daily did, but this day was his last day. Three white men saw and attacked him as he jogged minding his own business. He fought courageously for his life before being shot at close range and killed.

Again, like George Floyd, another Black man was killed because of the color of his skin. No one has the right to take another’s life especially when their life is not being threatened, not even the law enforcement.

Before the advent of the cellphones, many of these atrocities were swept under the rug since the founding of this country, but due to public recordings are now being brought to the light. This afforded many to see why the BlackLivesmatter Movement was so needed worldwide. Systemic racism is a human-created and perpetuated pandemic that had been allowed since slavery.

Learning recently that Ahmaud Arbery’s killers got life in prison was a victory for every man of color who has died at the hand of racism as this conviction of these three men send a message to others like them that today is a new day and their time is up for committing crimes against people of color.

Even the Atlanta’s judge in theArbery’s case stated that Arbery was “hunted down and shot.” The judge’s words spoke loud and clear of the reality of Arbery’s murder.

Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael, father, and son, were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for murder and the neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan, was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after serving 30 years.

Travis McMichael executed the fatal shot killing Arbery, who was unarmed. In Atlanta, George, Judge Walmsley in Arbery’s case reiterated how the dependants sought confrontation that ended in Arbery’s murder.

In showing compassion to the Ahmaud Arbery’s family and their deceased son, the Judge while yet in the courtroom held a minute of silence representing a fraction of the time Arbery ran through the Satilla Shores community near Brunswick.

Also, Judge Walmsley conveyed the horror that Ahmaud must have felt minutes before his death and the thoughts that ran through his mind at that moment while fighting for his life.

Judge Walmsley exuded care and compassion for a human being’s life being taken away without provocation. He also demanded that no one is above the law and can take the law in their own hands. All the while, commanding accountability to the law and that everyone is responsible for their own actions and pays the consequences, as a result.

These three men were found guilty by a mostly white jury, which delivered a landmark victory against racism in the criminal justice system in this case, unlike so many of yesterday.

Arbery’s family felt some sense of resolve but nothing can bring back their son as they spoke out and urged the court for the strictest sentence as these men lied about doing a citizen’s arrest and shot Arbery in self-defense.

As Georgia does not carry the death penalty. Therefore, for these three men who were convicted of murder, the Georgia Law carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison. In addition to their murder convictions, these three were found guilty of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment which counts for maximum prison terms from five to 20 years.

After being found guilty, the defense lawyers attempted to paint a picture of their clients as being good law-abiding citizens, family man, a devoted father, a former member of the Coast Guard, man of goodness, while these attributes may be true, they can now add to this list, convicted murders.

According to the defense attorney, his clients were remorseful. This is natural after a conviction, as they will live the rest of their lives behind bars. Who wouldn’t be remorseful? He petitioned the judge that his clients’ actions were reckless and do not warrant being in prison for the rest of their lives. They killed a man, if this doesn’t justify imprisonment what does?

They petitioned the judge, “that four minutes of conduct does not erase a life well-lived. To hell if it doesn’t. The jury spoke otherwise.

All these accolades but during the trial, none of them showed any remorse for what they had done but now they are the perfect specimen of a human innocent being who was reckless. A lawyer will say anything to get a client off, that’s why they get paid the big bucks. LOL!

Arbery’s life was taken away from this earth at their hands so why are they now so high and holy. When you do the crime, finally the time has come where you do the time.

In four minutes these three took the life of an innocent unarmed Black man without provocation and each deserves every moment they sit behind bars until the day they die. God help their weary racist souls.

They are weary now but during the trial, each displayed an attitude of arrogance and superiority to killing Arbery. Their attorneys even tried to blame Arbery for his own death and their vigilantism, and even tried to demean his persona, talking about his toenails.

They ambushed Arbery, and thought they could escape punishment. Makes you wonder if they might have committed a similar crime before but it never saw the break of day. Just a thought, as so many people of color have been killed needlessly over the year, and the facts were hidden and buried.

These three men ambushed Arbery because they could and thought they would get away with it. Well, reality has spoken and now justice is truly served.

Much appreciation for the words of the Civil Rights attorney, Benjamin Crump, who represented the Arbery’s family stated, “What we’ve called for from the outset is that Ahmaud’s killers be treated as a Black man would be — no more, no less. And today tells us, there is progress,” per the LA Times.

Nothing can bring back life from death, but justice provided some relief for Arbery’s family. Hopefully moving forward, Arbery’s family will file lawsuits against these three men’s assets.

In conclusion, vengeance is mine says, God. No one is above the law and certainly not God’s law. These three men did the crime now they must do the time. May each rest in jail for the rest of their lives and Arbery rest in peace as justice was served.
