If you’re a newbie to Medium like I was a couple of months ago, you are probably questioning whether you should pay a $5 fee for a monthly subscription. When I discovered Medium, I was hesitant to become a Medium member at first. My goal was just to write and post articles for other people to read. But then an inner voice spoke to me, and I became a paying member.

Now as I look back to it, I laugh at myself — is $5 that much of money considering what you get out of it? If you think about it, for the $5 subscription price:

  1. You get to read quality articles across the entire Medium. In a variety of topics and styles, and in your own time.
  2. You also get to write anything you want at any time and share it with the whole world.

For comparison, if you look at what you’re paying to Medium with subscription price to a popular magazine such as Vogue or newspaper such as the New York Times, you’d pay almost as much to read articles from only one newspaper. And the number and type of topics you can read is limited.

With Medium, however, you have everything at your disposal. You have full control of when and what to read. You can choose which publications to write for and submit your articles. You can also build and be part of a community of like-minded writers.

$5 per month is your one trip to the coffee shop.

For the price of your coffee latte at Starbucks, you get to read as many articles as you want throughout the whole month. How good is that?

Since I became a Medium member, I committed myself to read every day. I was hooked to reading. For two months I’ve been on Medium, I’ve learned so much that makes the $10 I contributed to the platform so far well worth the price. Reading other people’s articles not only increased my knowledge base, but it also motivated me to write more and improve my writing skills. And now I’m addicted to writing.

Medium is your all-in-one place to read, write, learn, grow, and did I mention interact with a diverse community of writers and readers alike? It is a huge community of people from different parts of the world who come together to interact and support each other.

It is a very unique platform — not like any other. As a writer, you can see yourself grow from writing every day on Medium. You can hone your skills gradually while learning from top writers at the same time. What can be a better platform that allows you not only to host your articles but also to read and comment on other’s people’s work?

Now when I think about it, even if I didn’t make a penny from writing on Medium, I’d still happily pay my subscription price just to read quality stories on Medium.

If you have doubts about whether you should become a Medium subscriber — don’t. I am here to dispel all of your doubts and concerns. Trust me, you’ll get so much in return. It is well worth every penny.

The month of May will always have a special place in my heart as this was the first month when I registered as a paying member. It’s been an amazing experience for me so far, and the more time I spend on Medium, the more I fall in love with it.

The Medium did not pay me to promote the platform. As you can tell, I’m speaking from my own experience.

I’ll stop rambling about Medium. Now it is your turn if you haven’t yet — go ahead and become a paying Medium member. You will be on your way to an exciting journey.
