Why I Will Continue Writing on Medium

Even if I don’t make money, I will still keep writing

If you write on Medium just for the sake of making money, then you strip yourself of all the fun of writing. If you force yourself to write without actually enjoying it, then it’s not fun either.

Even if I don’t make substantial money on Medium, I will still carry on. Why — I love writing for the sake of writing.

Here are the reasons why I will keep writing on Medium:

It gives me a chance to improve my writing skills.

For two months I’ve been on Medium, I noticed my writing skills have improved drastically. For me, being that English is not my first language, that’s a huge deal. To me, Medium feels like I’ve enrolled myself in a free online writing class for which I show up every day and work on my writing skills.

Writing liberates my mind.

The mere act of putting thoughts on a paper feels liberating for my mind. It’s a pure joy to be able to release whatever is on your mind and put it in words.

Writing on Medium is not only a great way to express yourself, but also have a chance of other people to read your work. All you have to do it write it, post it, and it’s done. Of course, you can later promote your articles in any way you wish. But people would still one way or another come across your articles and read them, even if you don’t promote them.

I practice my discipline every day.

Showing up, writing, and posting articles gives you a chance to work on your discipline. When you commit yourself to write, you cultivate consistency and persistence. It strengthens your character and elevates your self-worth.

I plant the seeds in hopes they will grow later.

When you start something new, such as writing, you plant the seeds in anticipation of them growing in unpredictable and unimaginable ways. The truth is, no one can predict your success on Medium. So why not take a chance and write and see where it takes you?

I like the creative aspect of writing. For me, it’s a thrill of undertaking something new and testing it out. Writing is a fun journey by itself, regardless if it brings you money or not.

It’s okay to dream for something big to happen because while you dream you also grow. Even though you don’t show tremendous growth in Medium, you’ll still see your growth in other areas. Every time you write, you put your mind to work. Your brain engages in a creative thought process — you play with words, you put them into sentences, you generate ideas.

With that said, I’ll keep showing up, writing, and growing in my skills every day. I want to continue to learn and grow, and writing with consistency will help me achieve that.
