Let’s Get Real

Flower & Bud

A mondo & free verse

The mother is the flower & the bud is the child (acrylic art by author)

Thank you, dear Carolyn Hastings, for the below prompt. I cannot thank you enough for all the encouragement and support.

The phrases in bold with an asterisk (*) in the poems were borrowed from ChatGPT’s poem, Maternal Love Blooms — see Paper Poetry’s ‘Let’s Get Real’ prompt for details.

The mondo and free verse are an adaptation of the nursery rhyme, One, two, buckle my shoe.

In the header image — the mother is the flower, and the child is the bud in a conversation.

I present a Mondo, and you can find more about it here.

MONDO:-

Mondo poems are often very brief collaborative affairs that present a question and answer in the style of trying to glean meaning from nature. Mondos can be as short as a one-liner or as long as two 5–7–7 syllable stanzas (the first stanza presenting the question; the second the answer).

O my dear mother One, two, buckle my shoe and how does the rest of the song?

You watch me play it Bend your knees with every step* To pick up the stix, lay them

The rest of the song is in free verse

One, two Bend your knees To pick up the stix Three, four Inside the home and Shut the door Five, six Say no to licorice stix Seven, eight Follow a guiding light* Nine, ten Write with a pen

“But I am learning that perfection isn’t what matters. In fact, it’s the very thing that can destroy you if you let it.” ― Emily Giffin, Something Borrowed

I enjoyed doing the above painting and will try more as time permits.

A lot of thought went into whether the above acrylic art should be used since it is my first time with acrylics. However, knowing that I learn a little each time, I put perfectionism to rest; hence it filled the header image space.

Mia Verita’s poem, Mother, is neatly packaged with artwork and a quote -

Thank you! Have a great week.
